Packaging in 2025 | Nestlé

Nestlé is committed to addressing packaging waste through sustainability initiatives, while GWP supports the Marmalade Trust's efforts to combat loneliness during the festive season with packaging donations.

At Nestlé, we are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and taking bold action to address the urgent issue of packaging waste.

We also recognise the need to address the environmental impact of packaging waste, particularly plastics.

As we look towards 2025, we know it will be a pivotal year for Nestlé and our industrys approach to packaging sustainability.

From January, we'll see Stage 1 of Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR). Manufacturers such as Nestlé will, for the first time, be able to bear the entire net cost of managing end-of-life packaging.

We have spent the last three years engaging closely with Government, industry peers and trade associations to shape the UK pEPR model, and we remain fully supportive of a well-designed and well-functioning EPR system that meets its aims and objectives: to ensure more packaging is designed to be recyclable, stimulate the development of re-cycling infrastructure and ensure greater access to recycled content that can be incor-porated into our packaging.

At the heart of such a system is the need for food manufacturers, who have a unique knowledge of the production process and packaging requirements, and who will bear the costs of EPR, drawing on the experience of well-established, producer-led systems in other countries.

We know that this will be a big year for our industry, and as a leading food and beverage manufacturer, we are on the road to making our packaging more sustainable but we know we cannot do this alone.

Our message for the industry in 2025 and beyond is simple: Let's continue to work on these common challenges and find common solutions that will help all of us participate in this transformation.

Packaging business provides third year of support for loneliness charity

Protective packaging manufacturer GWP is helping the Marmalade Trust bring festive cheer to hundreds of local people for a third consecutive year.

Having worked with the Bristol-based loneliness charity in 2022 and 2023, the packaging business has once more donated hundreds of cardboard boxes to the charity's Christmas Cheer initiative.

Volunteers from the Marmalade Trust will decorate and fill the boxes with gifts before giving them to those who are lonely in the festive season.

The hampers are part of a wider project that entails doorstep visits by volunteers alongside organising and funding Christmas Day meals in pubs and restaurants for those who would otherwise spend the day alone.

Last year, the initiative reached over 200 people throughout Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

The Marmalade Trust, founded in 2013, was the first charity in the world dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness. It undertakes various projects to identify people most at risk of experiencing long-term loneliness in society, helping them find ongoing support and encouraging them to make new connections and friendships.
